Extensive grassland management

In Czech Republic there is 950 thousand ha of grasslands. Approximately 300 thousand has no usage in animal breeding. But all these grasslands have to be managed because of their extrapraduction roles. One way of extensive grassland management is mulching. It can bring some environment risks. The experiment was carried out an Forage Crops Department of Czech Agriculture University for studying the effect of mulching on grassland and environment. The trial was established on valley meadaw in Cernikovice in 2000. Botanical composition, phytomass yield, crop quality, biomass vertical stratification, soil microorganism activity, chemistry of lyzimetric water and soil characteristics were observed.
