The macrolide antibiotic josamycin was used in a pig herd seriously affected by enzootic porcine pneumonia. Experimental (n=3211) and control (n=3183) animals were fed a diet supplemented with Valmulin (100 ppm) and oxytetracycline (500 ppm). The diet for the experimental group was further supplemented with Alpucine pig premix at 2 kg per ton of feed (36 ppm) and additional oxytetracycline (500 ppm). Compared with controls, the experimental animals suffered direct losses lower by 2.85 % and showed mean daily weight gains higher by 48.4 g, improvement of food conversion by 0.3234, lower costs per 1 kg of weight gain by 0.2387 CZK, and a decrease in the prevalence of lung lesions by 25 %.
