General data on aetiology, pathogenesis, diagnostics, and treatment of abomasal dilatation and displacement in cattle is reviewed and results of surgical treatment of 80 patients, showing signs of serious metabolic disorders, by right-side laparotomy and fixation of abomasum by omentopexis into the surgical wound are reported. The surgical procedure is described in full detail. Relapses were observed in four patients; all the affected patients were re-treated successfully. Eight animals developed serious health disorders (liver dystrophy, abomasal ulceration, sole ulcers, and other) during the postsurgical 5-month period and had to be emergency slaughtered.
