A new quarantine pest threatening greenhouse crops
2001
Szabo, P. | Hatala-Zseller, I.
In May 2001 pea-leaf miner Liriomyza huidobrensis (Blancard) appeared at Balastya (south-eastern Hungary) in gerbera. According to the recent surveys, the quarantine pest of plants, belonging to 14 families is present also on greenhouse crops in the region. It is obligatory to carry out treatment to control the quarantine pest upon the order of the pertinent plant protection and soil conservation service. Protection against the leaf miner is difficult, as it is resistant to pyrethroids and shows high tolerance to organophosphates. Occurence of the pest in greenhouse vegetables threatens integrated pest management programmes developed during long years of developmental work.
