Indoor melon growing in a nutshell

A conspicuous change has taken place in Hungarian melon growing. More and more growers start growing LSL (long shelf life) varieties and adopt the indoor growing methods. The vertical growing method is not so general as the horizontal one, because of its labour-intensive character. One of the most important steps during the growing period is to make healthy, well-rooted seedlings. Covering the soil with plastic foil is good for raising soil temperature earlier. It is useful against weeds and the fruits will not become muddy. During the growing season ventilation is very important and never forget to use honeybees or bumble bees. The LSL types must be picked with a short stem.
