Fish-faunistical research have been carried out for 6 years on significant irrigational canals in the Great Plain in Hungary. Beside these investigations in 1999 we started ecological researches on the Keleti- and Nyugati-focsatorna. The aims of these studies were to map the faunistical data of these water-bodies in more details, to determine the fish assemblages and reveal the effective environmental factors of the assemblages. First the results of the fish-faunistical surveys are shown in this paper, second the role of the water-velocity on the development of the fish assemblage. To reach the goals of the studies the actual water-velocity values and the grain size distribution of sediment were measured. The data of the maximum water discharges of the sections were used in the analyses. (cont.)
