Widodo, W.
A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of straw mulch and stable manure on physical and chemical soil properties of Andisols and yield of tomatoes. This experiment was carried out at field experiment garden of Winaya Mukti University in Sumedang from July to October 1996. Design of experiment used was strip plot design, consisted of two factors and two replications. The first factor was straw mulch dosages of four levels, namely: 0, 5, 10, and 15 ton ha-1. The second factor was stable manure dosages of four levels, namely: 05, 10, 20, and 30 ton ha-1. The results of the experiment showed that: (1) The interaction effect occurred between straw mulch and stable manure on dry bulk density, water available pores and yield of tomatoes. (2) Straw mulch increased soil moisture content and IC availability, but decreased maximum and minimum soil temperature. (3) Stable manure could increase soil moisture content and stabilized soil temperature. (4) The application of 22.68 ton ha-1 stable manure and 10 ton ha-1 straw mulch gave maximum tomatoes yield 50.75 ton ha-1.
