Evaluation of heterogeneity of camel thyroglobulin on deaf-cellulose
2001
Venkatesh, S.G. | Deshpande, V. (Osmania University, Hyderabad (India))
Separation of camel thyroglobulin from individual thyroids on DEAE-cellulose columns by step-wise gradient elution revealed heterogeneity with a major and minor form eluting at 0.1 and 0.11 M sodium chloride respectively. Ultracentrifugal and native gel electrophoresis of the 2 forms also showed heterogeneity. However, no differences in the sedimentation and electrophoretic behaviour were observed despite differences in iodine and sialic acid contents. No systematic variation in neutral carbohydrate and phosphate content were observed. The amino acid composition of the 2 thyroglobulin forms was similar, except for a higher glutamic acid content for the major form.
