This study reports the responses of 4 glossy and 1 non-glossy sorghum lines to 2,4-D treatments in seed germination, early seedling and callus growth. Although the herbicide negatively affected both the seedling and callus growth in general, the glossy line IS-8311 showed better seedling and callus growth compared to other genotypes. Though the glossy line IS-1096 was also vigoro us in callus and seedling growth in the control, it suffered a set back at higher doses of herbicide treatment probably due to its large cell size. IS-8311 under herbicide treatment possessed higher number of cell organelles compared to other glossy genotypes. IS-1096, showed disruption of the callus growth under this treatment.
