The results revealed that on Vertisols at Amreli, seed hardening resulted in higher seed yield during all the years. On Aridisols at Mandore planting in broad redges and furrows, ridge and furrow and seed hardening wer significantly superior to other treatments. On Alfisols at Vridhachalam seed hardening and sowing on broad ridges and furrows, ridge and furrow had no advantage over normal sowing. The practice of seed hardening resulted in the highest returns and benefit cost ratios at all the locations and hence recommended as a prative for sesame under rainfed conditions.
