Determination of irrigation water levels and their effect of nitrogen fertilizer use efficiency for tomato.
1999
Abu-Awwad, M.M.
An experiment was carried out at the University of Jordan Agricultural Research station, during the season 1998, on tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum mill cv. Volkato) inside a plastic houses. The objectives of the study were: To determine the most efficient irrigation schedule of tomatoes inside plastic house using two methods: pan evaporation and watermark:To determine the evaporation rates inside plastic house. To optimize utilization of nitrogen fertilizer (urea0 by using different fertigation rates. Four irrigation levels and one concentration of nitrogen fertilizer (40 ppm) were used to give four treatments. Three treatments were determine by applying irrigation water at 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 of the crop water requirement. Amounts were calculated according to the outside plastic house evaporation (E-pan). In treatment four, water was applied by using the depletion method based on the watermark readings.
