2001
Paas, T. (University of Tartu (Estonia))
Transition processes from centrally planned to market economies are not yet completed. There are various methodological approaches that can be used in order to compare international competitiveness of both, industrialized and transitional countries. Using factor analysis, this paper elaborates generalized competitiveness characteristics of four countries: 1. Level of economic development. 2. Size of economy. 3. Openness of economy. 4. Growth of human resources. According to the results of the study, after ten years of transition the Baltic States have a rather good competitive position among the other transitional countries and leading world economics.
