More than three billion pesos worth of corn harvest in the Philippines was lost in 1998 due to the effects of El Nino. This study would like to evaluate the impacts of El Nino on the seasonal fluctuations of corn yield. Using Los Banos, Philippines weather data from 1960 to 2000, ten El Nino episodes were identified. Simulation of Meteorological Variables (SIMMETEO) weather model was utilized to generate an additional ten years of El Nino data. For comparison, the year prior to an El Nino event is classified as a Non-El Nino year. Genetic and physiological parameters of IPB var 911 hybrid yellow corn were utilized in Crop-Environment Resource Synthesis (CERES) Maize simulation model. Actual and generated weather date were used to simulate corn yield in rainfed conditions using weekly sequential planting dates. Average grain yield during El Nino and Non-El Nino years are compared and presented in graphs. Corn yield variability under the two scenarios is discussed
