Sheep allocation in the regions of Slovakia with accent on permanent grassland

Sheep allocation in the regions of Slovakia having different shares of permanent grassland on the farm land has been analysed in the work. Selected sample is being represented by 245 thousand sheep, which is 75.2% of all sheep in the Slovak Republic. According to the value of permanent grassland shares, sample of agricultural enterprises dealing with sheep husbandry is divided into eight groups. In their framework animal (sheep) allocation, land fund utilising, a density of animals and a density of ruminants, especially sheep per forage crop area have been evaluated. In the selected sample, there are in average 456 sheep in one agricultural enterprise. In worse natural conditions, there are allocated 87.2% of all sheep (in the beginning of 90's it was 69.9%). The results have confirmed replacing of sheep to mountain areas, which is in conformity with the program proclamation of the Slovak Republic government. At the same time, forage crop share on arable land in worse natural conditions has been growing up, which from the production restructure point of view has to be evaluated positively. An average density of ruminants is 29.6% livestock units per 100 hectares of agricultural land, in the regions with the permanent grassland share higher than 75% it is impossible to increase this density at the present level of forage harvest. An average density of sheep is 35.5 head per 100 ha of agricultural land. There is an average density of 0.59 sheep per 1 ha of permanent grassland. At the present crops of permanent grassland it is impossible to increase it by 0.76 sheep per 1 ha of permanent grassland. If the density were two sheep per 1 ha of permanent grassland, it would be necessary to increase dry matter production by 1.40 t.ha-1 permanent grassland (which is increase of 47.8%). At the density of three sheep per 1 ha of permanent grassland dry matter production would have to be increased by 1.40 t.ha-1 permanent grassland (which is increase of 121,7%). At the same time inputs into permanent grassland intensification would have to be brought up. Solution results can be applied while predicting the number of sheep and their allocation in regions and they can also help to set more real number of sheep, areas, as well as production of dry matter from permanent grassland
