Thai agriculture in the next decade

Agricultural sector has received much attention than ever before during the present economic meltdown, for it is the only hope for the country's economic recovery. Agriculture sector is seen as the main source of absorbing the unemployed labours, and earning foreign exchange. For the last three decades, agricultural development has been given lower priority as compared to industries and other sectors which were the main goals of national development. This article presents the overview of the Thai economy and the changing roles of agriculture up to the present economic crisis. To be able to see the future trends, the impact of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Asian Free Trade Zones on agricultural commodities were analyzed. The readers are provided related internet sites in order to update and derive their own scenarios.
