Performance test and reproductive records of Landrace, Yorkshire and Duroc gilt from 4 commercial farms collected from 1992 to 1996 were used in this study. The number of gilt records after editing was 5,305. Genetic parameters of age at first mating and backfat thickness were analyzed with sire model and animal model by restricted maximum likelihood (REML). Error variance was smaller in estimators from the animal model than from sire model. The Error variance from multiple trait animal model was the smallest one. Estimated heritability were 0.26+-0.04 and 0.44+-0.05 for age at first mating and backfat thickness, rspectively. Genetic correlation between age at first mating and backfat thickness were -0.30+-0.09. The error variance and correlation observed that estimating genetic parameter from animal model provided more accurate parameters.
