[Machine and technological stations must be restructured rather than liquidated]

Problems of technical maintenance of agricultural works are considered. The expedience of the further development of the network of agricultural machine and technological stations (MTS) is substantiated. At the beginning of the year 2000 in Ukraine 940 MTS and mechanical troops of different forms of property had been functioning, but caused by limit of resources a bit more than a half of them were replenished with technical supplies. The MTS were not provided with circulating assets and credit resources to purchase fuel-lubricating materials, seeds, fertilizers, spare parts or paying salary, etc. The indices of the operations carried out by the MTS are given. The conditions are commented of rendering the machinery in leasing. The possible ways to reform the state MTS, privatize and transform them into agricultural companies (OJSC, CJSC, Ltd., etc.) are analysed. Privatizing the MTS along with their transformation into agricultural servicing cooperatives which function on a non-profit basis is recognized to be the most expedient while carrying out the agrarian reforms. The possible positive effects of the changes like those and recommendations on reforming the state agricultural MTS to reach the highest effectiveness for agricultural commodity producers are substantiated
