Heritability as one of the factors which show genetic variability, relates directly to the herd production level (averages and variability of the investigated traits). The investigation was carried out on the sample of 2955 standard lactations of the first calving Black and White cows crossed with Holstein. All cows were daughters of 18 bull-sires, and they were produced on 7 farms of PKB (Yugoslavia). Heritability was estimated for following traits: milk yield, fat yield, 4%FCM yield, day open and age at calving. All cows were classified in two groups, according to the average farm production: A-farms with higher production (average milk production of 6192 kg); B-farms with lower production (5675 kg of milk). Same bull-sires were included in both groups. Heritability of the yields of milk, fat and 4%FCM, age at calving and day open in group A were 0.218, 0.228, 0.226, 0.231 and 0.037. Results in group B were: 0.115, 0.107, 0.112, 0.222 and 0.084.
