Trials of seed treatment in Turkey
2000
Erync, M. (Sugar Institute, Etimesgut (Turkey). Division of Entomology)
In Turkey naked seed is used and seed spacing is 8 cm. In order to produce adequate establishment seed treatment is needed. Methiocarb was the only product used for seed treatment between 1987 and 1999. To determine effective and safe chemicals as alternative to Methiocarb some active ingredients were checked between 1993 and 1997. As a result of these studies satisfactory results were obtained for the control of soil pests including wireworms and flea beetle. The aim of this trial initiated in 1998 is to control the effect of present seed chemicals registered as regards the studies between 1993 and 1997 and also to investigate efficacy of mixtures of low doses of some insecticides with less costs. According to the results of 1998 the trial indicates that Imidacloprid and Tefluthrin (at 5,4 g AI/U + 3,6 g AI/U) offers a promising alternative to control target pests.
