Kaemmerling, B. (Pfeifer and Langen-LIZ, Elsdorf (Germany))
The Agricultural Information Service for Sugar Beet (LIZ) is a service institution run by the sugar industry, and supported by Pfeifer and Langen, Diamant-Zucker KG, Zuckerfabrik Juelich AG, Pfeifer and Langen Polska SC Zaharul Oradea in Romania. Since its foundation in 1991, the main duty of LIZ has been to provide around 20,000 growers and consultants with information and help in decision-making relating to all questions of sugar beet production. The mainly free services range from information relating to a specific topic and tables to aid decision-making to dialogue - based computer programmes. Here, farm and field-related questions are registered as concisely and clearly as possible and are then directly and comprehensively transformed into concrete solutions. These outcomes show the customer alternative choices of action to assist him in his decision-making process. The programmes are used by in-house as well as external consultants (official services, trade and industry). Since 1995, computer programmes have been available on floppy discs. It has also been possible, since 1999, to download these programmes, as well as current and specific information, at www.liz-online.de. How will LIZ continue its work in the future? More intensive use of the Internet, but also more intensive feedback!; More software applications, but not without coaching!; Focussing on objective and economic guidelines, but offering individual services, and making clients happy!
