Presence of beet necrotic yellow vein foruvirus in Marche, a central region of Italy

A research project has begun since 1999 in Marche, including collection and screening of soil sample. Virus detection was carried out by ELISA-tests from beetroot. The Rhizomania virus was found in around 20/ of soil samples of fields, designed for sugar beet growing. In Ascoli Piceno province approximately 25/ of the tested areas is infected by pathogen, while in Macerata and Ancona the Rhizomania infection decreased to 23 and 13/ respectively. The poster shows the mapping of infected zones and the incidence of disease in communes. These results support the necessity to use tolerant varieties and other control.
