Saline soils down the river valleys of Sredna Struma and Dolna Strumeshniza have been investigated, Additional analytical data for these soils have been presented concerning a specific region in South-West Bulgaria. The physico- geographical characteristics of the soils shows that the local nature conditions and factors favour the contemporary processes of overmoistening, alkalization and salinization. A complete genetic- diagnostic characteristic of the investigated soils has been performed. The soils are characterized by a sodium-sulphate and hydrocarbonate type of salinization. The saline soils have different degree of salinization and they are classified as solonchaks-like solonetz, solonchaks', solonetz and solonchaks-solonetz.
