Varieties and breeding lines of wheat and winter triticale have been tested for their resistance to Fusarium head blight during four years. Disease rating was highly significantly correlated with reduction in thousand kernel weight, reduction in grain weight per spike and reduction in number of grains per spike. The reduction in grain number per spike proved not to be a good parameter for measuring resistance. Tolerance has been detected in several varieties. A good level of resistance can be found in both winter triticale and wheat. A significant correlation between visual rating and reduction in grain weight per spike in spring wheat confirmed the utility of visual disease rating for breeding purpose.
