Eight varieties of proso millet (Panicum miliaceum) were cultivated in Ceske Budejovice during 1998-2000. There were observed panicle length, number of primary branches per tillers. The year and variety influence at all parameters were significant, but significant influence of grow density and fertilization on grain yield was not observed. The weather during vegetation period and soil nitrogen content are very important for positive response of millet to nitrogen fertilizers application by increasing of primary branches number per head.
