Holubec, V. (Vyzkumny Ustav Rostlinne Vyroby, Prague-Ruzyne (Czech Republic))
Land varieties and obsolete cultivars of agricultural crops created by intuitive selection or aimed breeding since the beginning of breeding belong to the most valuable gene pool. The existing fragments of land varieties were collected in ninetenth during expedition activities. 108 seed samples of land varieties were collected and over 1000 fruit trees were mapped on the territory of the Czech Republic and bordering regions. Six of the most valuable grain samples of cereals and legumes are reviewed including their traditional usage. Examples of probably still available landraces and wild relatives are given in a table. Obsolete germplasm erosion proceeds gradually to the zero point of their availability. in 80ies land varieties were available often on private fields, in the begining of 90ies neatly the last land varieties if grain crops were found in the border region of Moravia/Slovakia. At present it is very rare or impossible to get grain landraces, however old fruit trees, condiments and beans are still available.
