Enterococcosis of rainbow trout

Two specimens of rainbow trout with skin darkening and dorsal fin necrosis were examined in 1998. Other symptoms included deformation of the lower jaw, petechial hemorrhages on the upper jaw and palate, exophtalmus with hemorrhages in the iris, hyperaemia of liver and spleen. The intestines were almost empty. Samples of different organs were taken for bacteriological cultivation. The pathogen was identified as Lactococcus garvieae.
