The aim of this study was to determine a possible relation between the average daily weight gains (AWG) and reproductive performance of sows. AWG were determined in 8,835 Czech Large White (CLW) and 3,090 Landrace (L) sows during performance tests carried out between 1994-1997 and converted for the body weight of 90 kg. During the years 1994-1997 the AWG increased from 528.78 to 562.25 g in CLW gilts and from 521.51 to 570.07 g in L gilts. The litter size (number of born piglets, number of piglets born alive, number of weaned piglets) increased with increasing AWG. Statistically significant differences were found for AWG and the number of born piglets and AWG and the number of piglets born alive in both breeds.
