This review monography summarizes the principles and criteria of cattle housing from the point of view of animal welfare. Zoohygienical conditions in cattle stables such as air temperature and humidity, air flow and chemical composition, occurrence of smells and noise, lighting intensity and duration are defined. Special chapters deal with biotic factors occurrence (dust, bacteria, insects, rodents) and technological and social aspects of animal housing and welfare. Animal health care, handling, and evacuation in the case of disasters are described. Another part of this publication deals with cattle welfare in relation to the environment protection and sustainable agriculture. Legislative aspects of animal welfare in the Czech Republic as well as in The European Union are also presented.
