Urban forestry in Estonia as a research subject

The article presents a definition and a brief introduction into the nature of urban forestry. The so-called German and American trends in the research on urban forests are analyzed. A brief overview is given of similar studies in Estonia, which may conditionally be divided into four types: 1.The historical meaning and development of urban forests; 2.The spread, composition, flora and establishment of urban forests; 3.The recreational use of urban forests; 4.The ecology of urban forests and pollution research
