Effect of rare earths on pea
2001
Jaervan, M. (Estonian Research Institute of Agriculture, Saku (Estonia))
In 1998-2000 in Estonian Institute of Agriculture in microplot trials with pea the effect of rare earths on sprouting, growth of young plants, yield of pods, and uptake of nutrients were investigated. Very different concentrations of rare earth elements were tested by seed soaking. The effect of rare earths on biological processes of pea depended from concentration of soaking solution and calendar time of carrying out of experiments. The use of rare earths in optimal concentrations increased sprouting of pea by 19.6-22.0 per cent and weight of young plants up to 31.2 per cent in comparison to untreated plants. Presowing soaking of pea seeds for 3.5 hours in solutions with rare earths increased the yield of pods by 18.7-21.8 per cent. The use of rare earths increased the P and K content in pea roots and Ca content in young pea plants
