The application of additives to silages improved the fermentation profile and stability. Our earlier experiments confirmed the usefulness of silage supplementation with KemiSile 2000, especially in silages from legumes and grasses or legumes alone (Potkanski at al. 1999). Silages supplemented with KemiSile were characterized by higher stability and smaller quantities of undesirable microorganisms (Clostridium bacteria and moulds). A growing interest was observed in biological containing selected Lactic acid bacteria, most frequently from Lactobacillus plantarum species. Those additives turned out very effective in several experiments (Saarisalo et al. 2001, Wyss 1999). In our studies, we treated silages with biological preparation VTT which belongs to a group of biological additives widely accepted by general public and considered to be very safe. The obtained results confirmed its effectiveness and possibilities of wider application. Silages obtained with supplementation of this additive were good quality and showed good stability, which is not always in the case with other biological preparations
