Field experiment was done to clarify the yield of kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and weed composition on different periods of weeding was conducted from July to October 1998 at Kayuuwi, Minahasa, North Sulawesi on altitude about 600 m f.s.l. This field experiment was set up by using a Randomized Block Design with 7 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments were tested about weeding period: weed free (3 weeks after sowing, 5 WAS and 7 WAS), weedy (3 WAS, 5 WAS and 7 WAS) and no weeding. Result of this experiment showed that only weed free period of 5 to 7 weeks after sowing or when 3 and 5 weeks after weedy period could be obtained high yield of kidney beans. Percentage of dry weight of grasses weed decreased with the increasing of shading time by plant, in contrast, percentage of dry weight of broad-leaves weed increased with the increasing of shading time by kidney beans
