[Combining ability of carrot leaf number]

One of the requirements in contemporary breeding, is to develop varieties and hybrids suitable for early harvest. The value of perental forms was established by assessing the combining ability of leaf number in the hybrids. Genes with additive effects controlled the leaf number of their hybrids to a higher degree. In other CMS lines and testers transmission of this trait was to a higher degree controlled by genes with dominant and epistatic effects though genes with additive effects were significant as well. Genes with additive effects were more significant for inheritance of carrot leaf number though genes with non-additive efects influenced this as well
