Onions were tested in -10-20 kPa, -10-45 kPa and -10-70 kPa soil potentials for some physiological indexes. It was determined that a water stress changed the structure of onion leaf mezophyll consequently increased the number of stomata and dry matter percentage. The mechanism of water interchanging in the onion well functioned at -10-45 kPa soil water potential. An incosiderable water stress had not essential influence on the amount of photosynthetic pigments in onion foliage
