The performance of swine from weaning to slaughter under two feeding strategies: phase and choice feeding, the latter being considered as a possible alternative was studied. Results in both experiments showed that phase and choice were comparable feeding strategies in swine from weaning to slaughter. Protein intake, daily gain, feed conversion ratio, and protein efficiency were insignificantly different (P.05) overall and of the growth stages. Closer analysis of the choice-fed pigs' feeding behavior in this study confirmed that pigs were able to select between two diets differing only in protein, in a direct manner, according to its changing protein requirement over time
