Evaluation of Nitrophoska (salt) as foliar fertilizer for wheat
2001
Raza, H.
A field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Research Area, University of' Agriculture, Faisalabad. During 1999-2000 to investigate the effective dose of Nitrophoska salt and the suitable growth stages of wheat crop for its application. And also to investigate the combined effect of sorgaab and a commercial herbicide (Tribunal) with Nitrophoska salt (10-4-7-0.2 NPK Mn). Two dose of Nitrophoska salt i.e. l kg and 2 kg ha-1 were used and in three applications at offering + jointing booting and two applications at jointing + booting or booting + caring stages of wheat. Alone or in combination with two sprays of sorgaab at 30 + 40 DAS and Tribunal @ 2 kg ha-1 and control treatment was maintained. Salient results of the study are summarized as follows. It was showed by the data that two applications of' Nitrophoska salt @ 1 kg and 2 kg ha-1 at booting + caring stage is best for improving wheat yield It increased yield by 6.46 and 6.69 percent respectively as compared to control. Three applications of Nitrophoska salt @ 2 kg ha-1 at tillering + jointing + booting also increased wheat grain yield by 6.77% were statistical on par with each other but significantly better than control. The increase in yield with Nitrophoska salt was possibly due to more grains per spike and heavier grains. Two foliar applications of Nitrophoska salt @ 1 kg ha-1 at booting + caring in the presence of 2 sorgaab sprays at 30 + 40 DAS, improved wheat yield by 22.85% was significantly superior-than two applications of Nitrophoska salt @ 2 kg ha-1 at booting + caring with 15.82 % increase in the presence of two sorgaab sprays at 30 + 40 DAS. In the presence of Tribunal @ 2 kg ha-1 post-emergence, two applications of Nitroplioska salt @ 1 kg ha-1 at booting + caring increased the yield by only 13.58%. The increase in yield with Nitrophoska salt in the presence of sorgaab + tribunal may be attributed to less weed density which favored crop growth. Interestingly Nitrophoska salt @1kg ha-1 (two applications at hooting + caring) in the presence of sorgaab (two-sprays at 30 + 40 DAS) showed remarkable increase in harvest index than all other treatments and hence appeared as best treatment. It may be suggested that sorgaab sprays at 30 + 40 DAS with two application of Nitrophoska salt at booting + caring stage should be applied to control weeds and for increasing grain yield with a little cost.
