Grain losses in wheat variety Mehran-89 as affected by harvesting dates
1999
Mallah, B.A.
An experiment was carried out to study the grain losses in wheat variety Mehran-89 as affected by harvesting dates at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam during 1998. The experiment was laid out in a randomized completed block design with four replications and four treatments having net plot size 9m2. The results showed highly significant difference for plant population, number of tillers per plant, number of earheads per plant, grain yield per plot, grain moisture percentage of wheat, grain yield per hectare and grain losses (%) except plant height. Results revealed that minimum grain losses (%) per hectare in early and normal harvesting and grain looses (%) increased due to delay in harvesting. Further more data showed that grain yield as well as moisture content of seed decreased due to late harvesting. Therefore, it is suggested that delay in harvesting be avoided because it increased the grain losses. $
