Repeatability estimates of calving interval, lactation length and milk yield of Kundhi buffalo
1999
Soomro, A.J.
The study was conducted to estimate repeatability of calving interval, lactation length and milk yield of Kundhi buffalo at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam during 1998-99. The record of 120 Kundhi buffaloes reared at Livestock Development and Research Farm, Rohri, district Sukkur for the period of 15 years (1976-1990) was analyzed to estimate repeatability of productive traits i.e., calving interval; lactation length and milk yield. The calving interval and lactation length averaged 567.133 and 296.250 days, respectively. The milk yield was averaged 1261.079 liters. The repeatability estimates for calving interval and lactation length were 0.136 plus-minus 0.058 and 0.325 plus-minus 0.058, respectively. The estimate of repeatability for milk yield was 0.287 plus-minus 0.059. It was concluded that estimate of repeatability for calving interval and milk yield of Kundhi buffalo was low whereas repeatability for lactation length was medium. However repeatable traits are affected by the temporary environment conditions.
