The comparative efficiency of a phosphorous fertilizer single super phosphate (SSP) reinforced with Humic Acid (HA) was studied both in laboratory incubation and field experiments on maize crop (Zea mays L. Kissan). A calcareous soil was incubated with SSP (60 kg ha-1) alone and in different combination with HA (200,400,800,1600 and 2000 g ha-1). HA applied at the rate of 200 g ha-1 showed least P-immobilization both from native and applied-P pool during 84 days of incubation. The yield response from field experiment corroborated the results of incubation study. HA applied at the rate of 200 g ha-1 increased grain yield and all yield components of maize crop significantly over control and also comparable with all P levels applied alone (50, 100 and 150 kg ha-1). There was a decreasing effect on P concentration of plant by the reinforcement of HA with all levels of P fertilizer. Similarly, P recovery and fertilizer use efficiency also decreased with the reinforcement of HA and increase in the fertilizer levels. Fertilization increased the P-bonding constant, thus increasing P-adsorption and decreased P-recovery. The results suggested that application of HA at the rate of 200 g ha-1 without P enhance availability of plant nutrients and concomitant increase in yield and yield components.
