Effect of different seed rates on the yield of mungbean variety AEM-96

The experiment was conducted at Students Farm, Department of Agronomy, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam during spring 1999 to evaluate the effect of different seed rates on the yield of Mungbean variety AEM-96. The study tested four seed rates viz., 10, 15, 20 and 25 kg/ha. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design having four replications. The plot size kept was 2*2 (4m2). The statistical analysis indicated that seed germination/1m row and weight of seed/plant were highly significant and 50% days to flowering, seed yield/ha were significant. Where as plant height, number of branches/plant, number of pods/plant, 90% days to maturity, number of seeds/pod, weight of seed/pod, biomass yield/plant, biomass, yield/ha and 100 seed weight were non-significant statistically. The seed rate of 25 (kg/ha) had highest (62.0) seed germination/1m row. The lowest (42.87) seed germination/1m row was recorded under seed rate of 20 kg/ha. The Seed rate of 10 (kg/ha) had highest (53.9 cm) plant height. The lowest (42.05 cm) plant height was recorded under seed rate of 25 kg/ha. Therefore, as the seed rate was increased the height was decreased. The seed of 10 (kg/ha) produced highest (3.8) number of branches per plant. Whereas, the lowest (2.8) number of branches per plant was recorded under seed rate of 25 (kg/ha) .The same trend was observed in the results. The seed rate of 10 (kg/ha) had highest (48.12) days to 50% flowering. The lowest (44.65) days to 50% flowering was recorded under seed rate of 20 (kg/ha). The seed rate of 10 (kg/ha) gave highest (12.97) number pods per plant. The lowest (7.35) number of pods per plant was obtained under seed rate of 25 (kg/ha). The seed rate of 10(kg/ha) had highest (88.30) days to 90% maturity. The lowest (84.0) days to 90% maturity was recorded under seed rate of 20 (kg/ha). The seed rate of 10 (kg/ha) had slightly highest (8.37) number of seed/pod. The lowest (7.70) number of seeds/pod was recorded under seed rate of 15 (kg/ha). The seed rate of 10 (kg/ha) had more (0.325g) weight of seed/pod. The lowest (0.225g) weight of seed/pod was recorded under seed rate of 25(kg/ha). The seed rate of 1-0 (kg/ha) produced highest (14.428g) weight of seed. The lowest (8.872g) weight of seed/plant was obtained under seed rate of 20(kg/ha). The seed rate of 10(kg/ha) produced highest (18.942g) biomass yield/plant. The lowest (10.138g) biomass yield/plant was recorded under seed rate of 25 (kg/ha). The seed rate of 10 (kg/ha) had highest (3.315g), 100 seed weight. The lowest (3.1609) 100 seed weight was obtained under seed rate of 20(kg/ha).
