Pakistan is endowed with huge open water resources which can be effectively used for fish production through cage culture. The present study is a step forward in this direction. This work was done during the years 1996 to 1999 at Shahpur Dam near Attock. The experiments were conducted in a series on different fish species. The present paper is only concerned with the nursery reared fingerlings (average weight 10 gm each) of Cirrhinus mrigala. 12 cubic meter capacity cages were used for this species for a period of three months. Different stocking densities 5, 10, 15 fingerlings per cubic meter volume of cages were used. The experimental fish were regularly on artificial feed except controls. Observations on growth performance, survival rates and behaviour of fish were regularly made. Data on all physiochemical parameters were also regularly noted.
