Changes in some physical properties of the soil as affected by its management

Selected soil physical properties as affected by the type of soil use (forest and arable land) and the intensity of vehicular traffic were investigated. Crushing strength of the aggregates in cultivated soil was somewhat greater than that in the soil under forest. Increased wehicular traffic of farm machines resulted in greater penetrometer resistance, lower aeral porosity and number of pores actively contributing to water movement as well as in greater accumulation of spring wheat roots in topsoil and less rooting depth
