Presented results of research aimed to determine the effect of sludge origin and the way of its treatment on the amount and availability of zinc, nickel and chromium which occur in these materials. Total heavy metals contents (Zn, Ni and Cr) were diversified and depended mainly on the sludge origin. The amount of metals extracted with water and 0.05 mol/cubic dm CaCl2 solution was small, which testifies weak mobility of the tested elements in the analysed materials. Vermicomposting caused a decrease in the quantities of extracted metals
