Genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) combines cytogenic and molecular techniques. GISH is used to identify ancestral genomes in polyploid species, parental chromosomes in intergeneric hybrids and single chromosomes and their fragments in foreign genome. The paper presents a review of publications concerning the application of GISH in genetic studies of wide hybrids within the Lolium-Festuca complex
