In vitro cloned surfinia plants were transformed with Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain LBA 4404, carrying pBIN 10 plasmid with GUS-intron and npt II genes. Photosynthetic activity, chlorophyll fluorescence parameters and transpiration rate of flowering transgenic and not transformed plants were compared. The transformation did not alter significantly the photosynthetic activity, chlorophyll fluorescence parameters and transpiration rate. The results proved that transformation protocol elaborated for surfinia does not introduce significant variation to transgenic plant and therefore can be used in further breeding work
