In the paper the results of investigation conducted on saturated hydraulic conductivity coefficient and water retention of mountain soils are described. It was shown that the average diameter of soil grains is increasing with depth in the forest soils and in the meadow soil as well. The amounts of water available for plants are significantly greater in the profiles of forest soils than in the profiles of meadow soils. The highest values of permeability coefficient K10 were observed in the A horizons of forest soils
