The experiment was performed on 15 piglets with body weights of 20 kg and 15 fattening pigs with body weights of 70 kg, fed diets containing 20 percent of faba bean meal. Their stomachs, duodenums, jejunums, colons and rectums were subjected to histopathological, histochemical and ultrastructural examinations. It was found that diets containing faba bean meal caused minor damage to the alimentary tract of young animals, taking the form of excessive exfoliation of gland cells and damage duodenal villi. Hypoactivity of LDH and SDH was also observed in piglets. In older pigs changes in the alimentary tract were much less intensive and the activity of the above enzymes was at the same level as in the control group. The histological changes observed in the alimentary tracts of older animals appeaer in the process of their adaptation to the diets applied
