Slovenian Veterinary research and its development
2001
Grecs-Smole, G. (Ljubljana Univ. (Slovenia). Veterinary Fac.)
In light of the fact that in 2001 the Slovenian Veterinary Research journal celebrates its fortieth anniversary, we have preparedan overview of some relevant facts about its issues, the papers publishedin it andtheir evaluation. Until 1961 Slovenian veterinarians did not have their own specialist or scientific journal in Slovenian so they mostly publishedtheir research achievements in Yugoslav scientific journals such as: the Belgrade-based Veterinarski Glasnik (Veterinary Herald), formerly known as Jugoslovenski Veterinarski Glasnik (Yugoslav Veterinary Herald), Acta Veterinaria Belgrade, the Zagreb-based Veterinarski Arhiv (Veterinary Archives) and others. Slovenian Veterinary Research is the first andonly scientific journal in Slovenia on veterinary medicine. It has existed for forty years, acquainting veterinarians and biomedical experts with the achievements in their fields by publishing original research papers andcase reports. It is a valuable agent of scientific research in veterinary medicine in Slovenia. It plays a very important role in preservation and development of Slovenian veterinary terminology. In order to measure the research results and to evaluate the influence of papers publishedin Slovenian Veterinary Research we have usedcitation analysis, with which we determinedhow many times a work or its author was citedin other journals included in the Science Citation Index bibliographic database. Papers from Slovenian Veterinary Research have been citedforty-one times. Slovenian Veterinary Research is also publishedin English so as to bring the results of the research conducted at the Veterinary Faculty in Ljubljana closer to the international specialist public. The majority of the authors are researchers at the Veterinary Faculty, but papers by other authors from Slovenia andabroadare also published.
