Theoretical generalizations are made in the thesis and new solution of the scientific problem is given, which manifests itself in practical realization of breeding methods in order to produce high yielding varieties of winter wheat with the increased adaptibility to biotic and abiotic factors. A system is developed for annual assessment of a breeding material for frost and drough resistance, root rot resistance, ear and grain fusariosis. Genetic nature of seed germination for the type is investigated. A concept of selecting pairs for hybridization and using positive transgressions according to the frost resistance is developed. The following seven winter wheat varieties are obtained, which have been included to the Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine: BTs177, BTs47, BTs18, Veselka (Rainbow), BTs (low ear), Olesya, Perlyna Lisostepu (Forest Steppe Perl). A Chornobyl mutant collection is created. Forming of genetically unstable mutants is shown. Systemic mutations of Tr. spelta, Tr. compactum and Tr. vavilovianum are isolated. Individual mutants are used as sources of frost resistance, dwarfism and high quality of grain
