Among entomophagus insects the coccinellids (ladybirds) are most important natural enemies of aphids in Bulgaria. Our first field investigations showed that Bt potatoes "Superior" (carrying Cry3 A protein) are very effective against Colorado beetle Leptinotarsa decemlineata and preserve aphidophagous ladybirds. In the fields with standard potatoes "Santana" and "Arinda", against Colorado beetle were used insecticides Vaztac R and Regent R. Both insecticides were highly effective on L. decemlineata but they were also very toxic to aphidophagous coccinellids.
